I’ve managed to eek out enough space to restart the robot. I really have to thank my current ISP – they’ve done a great job keeping my site running through this crazy week.
Anyway, I’ll be managing the disk space carefully for the next couple hours, but I think I can stay ahead of the telephone calls. The value of this robot is the recordings for us to use to analyze later. But if you don’t mind, please refrain from calling it to mess around or prank your friends (or elderly mother for ten minutes! BAD INTERNET!)
Please check out the Kickstarter and let’s take down the telemarketers!
Have you thought about pitching this idea to the FTC to have them hire you to develop and maintain the robot? Using the robot to tie up telemarketer’s time is fantastic, but adding the FTC to the mix would bring in an even better dimension. They could use it to gather actual, live information about the scammers’ operations, attempting to get the peons making the calls to turn their bosses in for a reward. I suggested this on the FTC’s blog a few weeks ago before I found out about Jolly Roger – they should totally fund you.
I was going to enter their last contest but it wasn’t the right category
Hey Roger,
Is there any way to set up Nomorobo to forward robocalls to your system? The down side might be the exponential increase in call volume, especially if you couldn’t pre-screen the pre-recorded messages.
Not that I know of. But many of those robocalls will let you “press 1 to speak with an agent” and my robot does a pretty good job doing just that. I can handle the traffic. I hope to talk to nomorobo sometime.
This assumes you have an I-Phone, which I don’t. It might be nice to mention that somewhere in the verbiage. Too bad. Sounds like a semi-good idea.
Or android. Landlines work too if you have three way calling.
I just used it successfully with Vonage (VoIP) too.
Your kickstarter link is borked. Looks like you have an inadvertent double quote at the end of the path.
Aaak! Thanks for telling me!! Fixed now.
I love this! I get calls literally every day from a fake credit card company and some pathetically named totally illegitimate children’s cancer charity and have to figure out how to do this with my iPhone!
Please do! It might be a little awkward the first time, but you eventually get the keypresses down. Just don’t hang up. Mute yourself, put it on speaker, and enjoy.
Now I’m actually looking forward to a telemarketing call. Do you have any recordings in a woman’s voice?
Support has been amazing! If I can get this kickstarter funded, I am planning on multiple voices, genders, dialects, and even languages. So yes I hope so!
I currently use NOMOROBO! This is way better!
My friend played the Pirate totally messing with someone addressing his dead wife. (Great therapy! ) IT WAS 240 seconds of hysterically funny comic relief played to 15 engineering types at our HAM group

Wow! Thanks Glenn! And thanks for spreading the word!
